Mildura Coach Trip

FOR TENNIS SENIORS NSW MEMBERS/FRIENDS

From a two storey licensed club overlooking 32 lawn courts, on the banks of the Murray, Mildura Lawn Tennis Club is the host for one of the best tournaments on the Seniors’ Calendar. Just over the river Murray at the NSW-Victorian border, in excess of 60 players from NSW attend this tournament every year, together with players from Victoria and South Australia. It is a Category 4 knock-out tournament, in addition to daily round robins for players who are out of the corresponding time slot main event, and also players who don’t wish to play open events.

The coach trip has been in operation for over 20 years, with changes and updates as warranted, and caters for regular travellers (approx 15), plus any new travellers. It is a great introduction to Senior tennis for new members, meeting new friends and finding their niche in Seniors' Tennis. Also there is plenty to interest any non-playing partners or friends.

We use a first class touring coach provided by Crowthers’ Coach Company Caringbah. Accommodation is first class, overnight Wagga Wagga down and back, at Country Comfort Motel, and 6 nights at Mildura, B/B. The driver stays with us the whole week and is on hand to transfer players to and from the courts and social functions.

This tournament is supported by players from NSW, Victoria, South Australia, and A.C.T. Plenty of organised social activities, including a Jazz, Food & Wine Festival in Mildura on the weekend we arrive, and a dinner/dance cruise on the Murray River. Plenty for even non-players to enjoy.

The 4 day tournament which concludes on Melbourne Cup Day, is conducted by the Mildura Grass court Club from a licensed two-storey Clubhouse overlooking the courts, and caters for all standards of players. There are daily round-robins separate from the quite strong Category 4 Seniors ITF Open tournament, including a welcoming Twilight Round Robin followed by a Spit Roast on Saturday 30th October.

At the completion of the Tournament the Tri-State teams event is conducted over two days, Wednesday and Thursday. Teams are selected on strength, from players in Mildura, with a dinner-dance on the Wednesday night on a paddle vessel on the Murray River. THIS YEAR, NSW IS THE HOST STATE!

The tournament is an ITF Category 4 tournament, which starts on the Sunday and is completed on Tuesday, “Melbourne Cup Day”. It incorporates separate round robins for those who are not participating in or are eliminated from the main draw. The coach leaves Sydney on the Friday, staying overnight in Wagga Wagga. It arrives on Saturday, when people ‘freshen up’ and attend the Welcome ‘Spit Roast Dinner,’ which is accompanied by plenty of opportunities to socialize.

Those who are selected in Tri-State teams may be eligible for paid leave from work, depending on their employer, as certification is provided by the Secretary, TSNSW.
